on april 5th, 1994 kurt cobain took his own life with a shotgun. the world became more aware of the depressive condition and mental health awareness began to grow. anti depressant medication such as prozac became a trend. we began to make the world a safer place for sad people. On February 4, 1997, davide sorrenti died of a kidney ailment, possibly related to excessive heroin use. the fashion trend "heroin chic" ended. In May 1997, President Clinton denounced the American fashion industry for cynically abusing teenagers and helping spread heroin usage to a new and younger group of people. drugs like heroin were no longer fashionable. we began to take steps to create a safer america for our children, without drug addiction. On september 11th, 2001, Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists to be flown into buildings. Two of the planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. Within an hour and 42 minutes, both 110-story towers collapsed, with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the World Trade Center complex. america felt unsafe. we took drastic steps to increase airplane security, and through that national security. the safety of the american people became the center of the nation's focus. a new style of parenting emerged, "helicopter parenting". our kids would no longer be told that they did badly on an assignment, or that they lost a game in gym class. every child would be a winner and every child would be applauded for trying. here, the millennial condition begins. children growing up in the new millennium are not taught the merits of hard work, or what it means to fail. bullying becomes an issue of national security. schools are safe zones for our children.
